If all goes according to plan a specially designed solar powered catamaran will cruise the waters gobbling up fishing nets, plastic bags and Styrofoam. It will then funnel that garbage into a high temperature cooker to convert that litter into fuel. That fuel will then allow that boat to travel further and collect even more garbage until the Monterey Bay is completely clean. It’s an ambitious project that is getting a lot of attention and should be something that is on the radar of everyone living in Santa Cruz.
