Cleaning up parks has its own reward and you can see it clearly on a bright summer day when folks turn out to enjoy the surroundings. But that doesn’t mean the cleaning team can’t be recognized for all their efforts. Back in 2012, a group of volunteers formed the Park Ridge Green Team and set out to pick up debris from Pascack and Mill Brooks plus the Mill Pond. By the end of the day they had gathered up 760 pounds of trash and over 500 pounds of recyclables. That didn’t stop there. The following year, the team reached out to neighboring Rockland communities for a bigger cleanup day. That lead to 173 volunteers showing up to pitch in and 2,500 pounds of trash being collected. Clearly, this is a group who loves cleaning up. As a result of their hard work the Green Team was given a special award from the state.
If you’re thinking about tackling your own cleanout project, chances are you might not get an award for the effort but you’re sure to appreciate living in a clutter free home. With Junk King Hudson Valley on your cleanup team, there will be no end to how much junk you can finally get rid of.
Where is the storage area in your home? Is it the garage? Attic? Basement? This would be that one place where all your junk ends up. You know this stuff is junk because it’s either broken or not ever going to be used again. You can’t put it on the curb or cram it into your trashcan. You could rent a truck, load it up and spend the day driving to the nearest landfill. Or you could simply call up Junk King and let them handle the job. Junk King Hudson Valley provides the manpower and the truck space as part of their complete removal process. The only effort you’ll exert is deciding how much you want to throw out.
When it comes to pricing, Junk King beats the competition hands down. That’s because they are only going to charge you by the amount of space your junk takes up on the truck. You’re not going to be paying extra for dumping fees or labor costs. Whatever you’ve got in your “storage space” can finally be carted away. You didn’t buy your home to keep junk in there. Take back your space with a call to Junk King.
Got some papers that need shredding? If you were around on June 15th you could have taken advantage of the Town of Clarkstown shredding day. They had a truck parked down at city hall for a couple of hours and let residents bring up to three small boxes to the shredder. They planned to keep thing going from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. or until the trucked filled up. That’s a nice service but it certainly isn’t convenient. Get rid of old papers is one thing but what about all the oversized items you might have around your house that you can’t wait to get rid of? A shredder isn’t going to do the trick. For a big hauling job you need a big hauling company like Junk King of Rockland County.
The Catholic Community Services of Rockland recently started up a countywide program to offer more fresh fruits and veggies to families who are going through a struggle in these tough economic times. The program is called “Produce the Produce” and it got a grand kick-off at the CCSR’s “Garden of Love.” Martha Robles, Executive Director of Catholic Community Services of Rockland (CCSR), explained, “Produce the Produce is a far reaching collaborative effort to get as many people as possible to grow, donate and make fruits and vegetables an everyday staple in people’s diets. CCSR is serving as a catalyst to engage other community and parish gardens to participate in ‘Produce the Produce’ as well as local farmers markets, restaurants, grocery stores and common citizens to grow and donate their excess fresh produce to the initiative,” Ms. Robles said.
Did you know that New York State law specifically bans the disposal of electronic waste in landfills? It does. That means your friendly garbage collector has been instructor to ignore any type of e-waste you put out to the curb for pickup. The same can be said of major kitchen appliances like a stove, fridge, washer, dryer or dishwasher. You can’t put them out on the curb in front of your house and hope they’ll disappear because they won’t. It becomes your responsibility to get that item properly disposed of. So, just how are you going to accomplish that?
The Great American Cleanup is an annual event where a thousands of hard-working volunteers from all across the country volunteer to spend a Saturday morning cleaning up their neighborhood. Here the Keep Rockland Beautiful volunteers lead the charge. They handed out gloves, garbage bags, recycling bins and pickers. At one sit behind an furniture store the gang managed to gather up 15 huge bags of trash in just less than 90 minutes. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday morning.
It has been several months since Super Storm Sandy slammed into the region but the clean-up and rebuilding effort is still ongoing. Recently the newly launched New York State Senate Bipartisan Task Force on Hurricane Sandy Recovery conducted a tour of the impact areas. After a roundtable of discussions with those involved with the clean-up and those affected by the storm there was a new round of recommendations. These include the following:
