Do you know where your garbage ends up? Usually by the time some piece of trash is tossed out in a garbage can or dumpster you’ve stopped thinking about it. If you did give it a second thought you might think that it merely ends up in a landfill or recycling center. Hopefully, with the landfill option it will be a place that is certified for dumping and carefully monitored.
Throwing out trash brings up the axiom “Out of sight and out of mind.” There really is no reason why you should think about your trash again. But what about bigger items like furniture? What happens to those kinds of things when they are tossed out? The answer to that question might just depend on who is doing the tossing. With Junk King it might just turn out that your old furniture is given a second life. That’s because Junk King of Gold Country works with local charities to accept donations from their pickups.
Once you’ve deemed something as junk all you should focus on is finding the easiest method for getting rid of that thing. Junk King takes the hassle out of this type of project by providing you with a strong two-man crew and big empty truck to fill up. If an item is still in decent condition, Junk King Gold Country will make sure it is dropped off at a charity reclamation center. Here workers can spend a little time to refurbish that item and get it ready for use. It can then be sold at a fraction of the cost with proceeds going back to that charity or simply donated to organizations who give out furniture to those in need. Isn’t that better than your old sofa rotting away in a dump? It is certainly better than having that sofa rot away in your garage!
Remember that you don’t just have to call on Junk King to get rid of furniture. They can handle all types of junk removal. If it’s something that is heavy, the Junk King crew can pick it up. Things like kitchen appliances, bedroom sets, auto parts, or old lawn mowers are all the kinds of things you want to get rid of but just don’t have the means to do so. That can all change with Junk King on your side. Not only will you be getting rid of your unwanted stuff but you’ll find out that the Junk King pricing structure is extremely competitive and affordable. That’s because Junk King Gold Country charges you by the amount of space your junk takes up on their truck. There won’t be any other types of charges. When you’ve got furniture or any other kind of oversized item, Junk King should be you’re only call.
It takes a lot to keep Chico clean and even more to keep it green clean. Luckily, the town has some help with this endeavor in the form of Chico State University students. They’re part of a volunteer program called Community Action Volunteers in Education or CAVE and this is the second year they gathered together with the specific mission to beautiful the neighborhood. They targeted the weekend after Halloween which seemed to be a good idea considering all the garbage left behind from the various revealers. The students loaded up with garbage bags, gloves and hand sanitizer and headed downtown for a thorough sweep through. All together there were over 70 students who pitched in for the cleanup effort. Most of what they collected was targeted for recycling which is where the “green” thing comes into play.
An electronic waste drop off day was recently sponsored by a professional electronic waste recycler. At this four hour event, folks could drop off all their old monitors, TVs, VCRs, stereo equipment, speakers, keyboards, PDAs, printers, copiers, scanners and fax machines. The goal is to make sure all that e-waste is properly disposed of. That’s a good idea we can all get behind. What doesn’t work is this concept of your bringing your stuff to them. In other words, if you can’t load up all your e-waste or missed the drop-off day then what happens? Wouldn’t it make more sense for your e-waste to get picked up from your home? Of course it would and that’s why you need to hire
The state of California’s economy is as large as some small county’s entire economy. That’s why when the nation takes a hit, we’re sure to feel the impact even more severely. Of course, the reverse is also true. When there are signs of an economic comeback, California often leads the charge. Take for instance the foreclosure rates. Here in California those numbers were at an all time five year low between July and September. That means that the housing market is coming back in a big way.
An air conditioner is a lot like a piano: Once you get it you’re almost always stuck with it. This is because the typical AC is such a bulky and heavy item it’s hard to move around let alone throw away in the garbage. There was a time not too long ago when televisions were heavy objects too but that has all changed thanks to modern design improvements. No such luck with the air conditioner. It’s always going to weight a ton and you’ll always need two people to get it in and out of a window. So, what to do if you want to get rid of your old clunky AC? Simple: call
As you travel through life, what do you leave behind? That’s a question which was answered by 25 student-volunteers from Chico State University as they set out to spend the day cleaning up the remnants of Beer Can Beach after the big Labor Day holiday weekend. There was already a group of volunteers who camped out along the beach for cleanup duty but the Chico students returned last week. Sadly, they still have plenty to pick up which in and of itself is a big problem.
What do wood scraps, animal manure and household garbage all have in common? Yes, they are trash but they are also being targeted to use as part of “clean energy” initiative in California. All of those materials would be burned and turned into energy. Think of it as creating “old school” energy. It’s all part of the state’s 2012 Bioenergy Action Plan that was just released. Right now the bioenergy sector of California employs around 5,000 people and funnels around $575 million into the state’s coffers. If this new plan goes through there could be 4,000 more jobs created which is good news.
There must be something wired into our DNA that makes us all a hoarder. Sure there are little hoarders who cram their closets with shoes or who can’t throw away a loose button. Then there are extreme hoarders whose lives become overwhelmed with their “collections.” That’s when holding onto junk has become a safety hazard. Often the older we become the easier it is to simplify our lives through downsizing. After decades of lawn mowing, wouldn’t it be nice to move into a place where the lawns are taken care of for you? Not only can downsizing free up more of your time, it’s going to free up more of your money. Yes, most downsizing is going to mean a move to a smaller place but that’s a good thing. Of course, downsizing doesn’t necessarily mean you have to move but consolidate. In other words, make the most out of the space you have by getting rid of all the useless clutter.
There was a time, not too long ago, when it cost a Chico resident $1,500 for a chicken. Actually, that was for a live chicken as in a chicken you would keep in your backyard. A while back, a couple had two chickens that a neighbor complained about. When it was discovered that they didn’t have permits it was going to cost them a whopping $3,000 to keep their cluckers. They took this issue all the way to the Chico city council which held a raucous town hall meeting. Pro and anti backyard chicken groups were out in full force. Before voting on a measure to strike down the permit fees, one of the council members had to recues himself from casting a vote. Turns out they had backyard chickens without a permit. When the gavel came down, those huge permits fees were discontinued and the chickens were allowed to roam free, albeit free in a backyard. Would you like to raise chickens in your backyards?
