Dumpster Rental vs. Junk Removal: the pros and cons

Is it ever better to rent a dumpster than to use a junk removal service like Junk King Columbus?

We don’t think so and here’s why: Many of our customers are weekend warriors and do-it-yourselfers (professional contractors generally have contracts with us and therefore aren’t looking for our trash removal services very often), frequently neighbors with home improvement projects or local businesses (we are just finishing a huge job for Nationwide in the old Buggy Works building in the Arena District, check back because we are going to blog about it soon). In almost every situation our prices are lower than dumpster rental and because we offer labor—including light demolition—at no additional charge, most Columbus-area residents are thrilled when they find us.

If you have a very big or extended construction project which will create an extraordinary amount of waste and debris (and by that we mean dozens of cubic yards or more—think enough to fill a tractor trailer) and you don’t mind doing it yourself or paying someone to do it, then traditional dumpster rental might be a viable option for you…assuming you also don’t mind having an unsightly dumpster blocking your driveway. But in reality those situations are few and far between. Often times we get calls where people have improved or repaired their houses and have a pile of trash and rubbish left over—it could be lumber scraps from a deck, it could be flooring materials or shingles—even if the items are neatly piled next to the curb most trash services will not pick them up; Junk King will.

Our corporate website features a load estimating tool that will give you an idea of how much junk and debris will fit in a given amount of space in our trucks (we charge by volume) and a ballpark price. For your convenience, it is set up in everyday terms like “a one car garage full.” As a matter of fact, it doesn’t even need to be piled next to the curb, we will come to you break it down, pack it up, load it up, haul it away, and dispose of it for you at no additional charge. We don’t charge for labor, mileage, weight, time, or dumping fees. Everything is included in our free on-site estimate and if the job ends up costing less than our estimate you pay the lower price, but never more. While our pricing is comparable to the cost of renting a dumpster, the service and value we provide far exceed it. No one is thrilled with the idea of more stuff ending up in our landfills but that’s exactly what happens when you rent a dumpster, but when you call us we not only load, remove, and dispose of all types of rubbish, we also sort it. We recycle everything that can be recycled, we compost everything that can be composted, and we do our best to reduce the environmental impact of waste management.

If you do a little shopping around, you’ll find that dumpsters offered for rent typically range in size from 4 yd.³ to 40 yd.³ At Junk King we have the largest trucks in the junk removal and hauling business, as well as some of the cleanest and most efficient. Our trucks measure 10 feet wide by 15 feet long and will hold 20 yd.³.
