The Bethlehem Spotlight recently featured Junk King in a post about green junk removal:
“Junk King is a certified waste consolidation center through the Department of Environmental Conservation. Special attention is placed on remaining environmentally safe. When called upon, a truck will arrive to pick up that old television, where it is properly wrapped and hauled away to their facilities before it is sent away to be recycled. ”
Is there anything you have in your front yard that could be considered junk? If so, you might be getting a visit from a representative of the Albany Code Enforcement Department. These are the folks charged with the task of protecting property values. Whether you’re a business or homeowner, the Code Enforcement Department wants to make sure you’re going to get the most from your property if you put it up for sale or refinance. That might mean cleaning up the area surrounding your property as in your neighbor’s home. Translation, if you’ve got junk you better get rid of it or face a fine.
While it is true that a brand new washing machine and dryer combination might not be the most romantic of gifts, it is still a present that will be used all throughout the year. That’s a lot more than an outrageous sweater or loud tie. If shopping for a new washing machine/dryer combination is on your holiday list this year, you’ll want to consider a few factors before heading out to the store.
This recent news bulletin was put out by the AP: “A line of windy rainstorms pummeled central and eastern New York, downing trees and utility poles and knocking out power to thousands. The National Weather Service says heavy rain led to flash flooding in Greene and Ulster counties starting late in the afternoon. The warning was in effect until 10:30 p.m. Central Hudson Gas and Electric is reporting about 17,000 mid-Hudson Valley customers without electricity Tuesday evening. There is a long list of preventable deaths and illness that we should always be paying attention to. One of those preventable illnesses is heat exposure. During the summer extreme exposure to heat can get a lot of folks in trouble. According to the Centers of Disease Control, between 1979 and 2003 over 8,000 citizens died from excessive heat exposure. That’s more deaths then from hurricanes, lightning, tornadoes, floods, and earthquakes combined. In 2001 alone there were 300 deaths that were attributed to excessive heat exposure.

A growing concern for many cities is what to do with all of our electronic waste. This is no different here in Albany as many residents are replacing their old devices with newer models. This is especially true for televisions as folks make the switch over to HDTV. If you’ve ever gone to an electronics store and has seen the crystal-clear pictures provided by HDTV then you know what you’ve been missing. It’s hard to go back your old set after something like that! As a way of providing a method of getting rid of electronic waste the city of Albany has stepped up and provided a procedure to handle this type of disposal. Unfortunately, it might not be the most convenient of programs.
What is your old fridge worth? You might be thinking it’s time to replace that old clunker in your kitchen in favor of a newer model with more “bells and whistles.” Nothing wrong with that but as you go shopping for your new ice box you might want to investigate the “Buy Green, Save Green NY High-Efficiency Appliance Rebate Program.” That’s government speak for “you can get cash for your old fridge.” How much green? How does a $350 rebate on a refrigerator and $250 rebate on a washing machine sound? All of a sudden buying a new kitchen appliance is starting to make a lot more sense.
Even though the real estate market has lately been described as a wild roller coaster ride that fact remains that real estate investing is still a shrewd choice for anyone looking to improve their financial portfolio. The key is making the right choice. In other words, you don’t want to over extend yourself by buying a property that you can’t afford. There are many folks who are taking advantage of the current trends in real estate pricing by becoming proactive buyers. When prices drop it easy to get into the market and find a home that can be of great value either as a flipped property or a rental. Nowhere is this truer than with the foreclosed homes available for purchase. Albany is no different than any other city across the country in terms of foreclosed homes. But for every foreclosed home there is a silver lining of an opportunity.
